This worked for many decades until the chemical industry sold everyone a bill of goods about Plastic.
It is true some plastics are recyclable, but most are not.
The plastic bottles that most people use for drinking water are NOT recyclable and end up in landfills.
These could take up to 10 million years to degrade, some will never degrade and become an environmental nightmare.

Get rid of printed Newspapers and Phone Books (White and Yellow Pages).
With the Internet there simply isn't a need for these printed materials that fill up landfills and we have to cut down healthy trees to make.
These companies can charge a fee to advertise on the Net and a fee to access the newspaper.
Making these electronic also gets rid of delivery which uses gasoline.

Which electronic devices waste the most energy when they are turned off but still plugged in?

Set-top cable boxes and digital video recorders are some of the biggest energy hogs. Unfortunately, there's little consumers can do since television shows can't be taped if boxes are unplugged. It also typically takes a long time to reboot boxes.

However, some of the other major consumers of standby power are more easily dealt with: computers, multifunction printers, flat-screen TVs, DVDs, VCRs, CD players, power tools, and hand-held vacuums. The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) measured standby power for a long list of products.

While it's true each individual product draws relatively little standby power, the LBNL says that when added together, standby power can amount to 10% of residential energy use.

Why do electronic devices use energy when they are switched off?

Electronics consume standby power for one of two reasons, says Chris Kielich of the Department of Energy. They either have an adapter that will continue to draw electricity, or they have devices (such as clocks and touchpads) that draw power. Anything with a remote control will also draw standby power, she says, since the device needs to be able to detect the remote when it's pushed.

Does everything suck energy when it's plugged in and turned off?

No. If your coffeemaker or toaster doesn't have a clock, then it's probably not using standby power, says Kielich. Chances are your hair dryer and lamps (although they may have a power adapter for the dimmer) are not drawing standby power either, she says. Devices with a switch that physically breaks the circuit don't consume standby power.

Will switching things on and off shorten their life?

Probably not, says Kielich. You'd have to turn devices on and off thousands of times to shorten their lives. The real downside, she says, to unplugging electronics is that clocks and remotes will not work, and you do have to reset everything.

Can you ruin batteries by unplugging battery chargers and causing batteries to completely discharge?

It could be a possibility, says Kielich. Her advice: Don't let batteries get completely drained. But you don't need to have things like hand-held power vacuums and drills plugged into the charger when it's 100% charged, or even 50% charged.

Power Strip FAQs

Plugging electronics into a power strip and turning it off when you're not using it is a widely prescribed solution for curbing vampire power. Here are answers to common questions:

Power strips draw energy when they are turned on, but not when they are switched off.
Any decent power strip should have surge protection, according to Kielich. Flicking your power strip on and off will not create a power surge capable of damaging electronic devices. In fact, it will protect devices from other surges.
People are worried about the possibility of fires caused by plugging too many things in at once. If you plug in the allowed number of devices, then power strips are safe, says Kielich. Just don't plug your power strip into another power strip, or you run the risk of creating an overload.

One of the biggest polluters are these Gasoline Engines that power things like ATV's, Boats, Scooters, some Motorcycles, and Garden Tools - such as Leaf Blowers, Chainsaws, Hedge Trimmers, and Lawn-movers.
Now we're not gonna get rid of pleasure Boats, ATV's, or Motorcycles anytime soon but we can ban the ones that are operated by 2-cycle engines (mix gasoline and oil together, they pollute like hell).

The first thing we should do is ban all Garden Power Tools that are NOT Electric. There are millions of gasoline operated lawn-movers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and chainsaws in the United States alone.
Banning these gasoline gadgets and making it mandatory to use electric only will reduce Green House Gases and pollution in your area. They are also noisy, and noise pollution is another cause of health problems.

Yes, we should be converting Trash to Steam. Using our garbage to generate electric power. We need new power plants, so instead of of using oil, gas, or coal; in heavy populated areas, we should be building what is referred to as Trash to Steam Plants, we burn our everyday garbage to generate electric power.
This idea is certainly better than landfills.

Another simply way to save the environment, Go Green, is to get rid of School Books, all kinds of Books for that matter, but start with school books.
Most school books are outdated before they finish printing.
They are heavy. bulky, and cumbersome.
They get lost or damaged easily.
You have to cut down TREES to make books because paper comes from trees.
Remember, Trees make oxygen and without oxygen we all will die!

The alternative is simple.
Electronic school books.
Available now are inexpensive mini notebooks, like a compact version of a laptop. They are lightweight, easy to carry and use. New updated data (correct knowledge and information) can be programmed into the mini notebooks in minutes.

Printed School Books are bad, get rid of them, educate our children properly, save the Trees, save the environment!

These are good, easy to carry, can be updated with latest educational text and information without buying a new one. Tell your school, no more printed paper text books, we want electronic notebooks instead.

School Books and related paper supplies are heavy. Children now strain themselves to carry these outdated techniques for teaching by using these school bags, another waste of materials that is not needed.
Ask yourself what long term health problems are we going to have with children carrying a backpack around with all that unnecessary weight?

One simple way to reduce oil consumption, reduce pollution, reduce airport delays, and reduce noise levels is to - Ban ALL Private and Corporate Jets, Planes, and Helicopters including TV news station copters.
The one exception is heliports in major cities like NYC.
These damn things are one of the largest problems in existent today !!!
They are also one of the biggest national security issues and easy to use for both drug traffickers and terrorist.

The easiest way to eliminate these menace is to charge $50.00 per gallon for fuel, plus 10 times the landing and take-off fees at all airports that commercial jets pay. Wow what a way to get a tax on those who should be paying their FAIR Share anyway!

Big Rig Trucks, often referred to as 18-wheelers along with delivery trucks should be banned from all roads during rush hour traffic.
They congest freeways, increase pollution and noise, and cause accidents.
Since they can't get up to speed quickly they tie up traffic by starting a chain reaction of slow downs until cars end up on a stop and go.
If you have ever been in rush hour traffic you know all trucks cause these problems.

We can save fuel, reduce accidents, noise, and pollution by simply banning these and other types of vehicles from rush hour traffic times.

One affordable way is to STOP building homes and buildings out of WOOD !!!
That's right, use concrete in the total construction process. No wood, no cut trees.
Remember, Trees are good, they gives us oxygen and remove CO2.
This is good. So save a TREE today. No, then plant one.

Typical Woof Frame Home found throughout the United States. Many Trees are cut down unnecessarily for new home construction.
Remember this is bad.

A home constructed entirely of 'CONCRETE.'
Know the FACTS before you speak....
The mass of stone walls and concrete slows down the passage of heat moving through the wall. A concrete home stays warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than a wood-framed home. Also, a stone and concrete wall doesn't have as many air leaks as a wood-frame wall, and air leakage accounts for a large percentage of energy loss in the home.
This is good. Insist that all builders and developers in your community build homes and building from concrete only.

Going Green with Existing Technology: Breaking Our Dependency on Oil

Yes, their is existing technology that would allow us to stop using oil (gasoline) in vehicles immediately. This technology has been around for 100-years.
It is called the Steam Engine.
The Steam Engine went though many stages and was always rejected by the public.
The primary reason people don't like the steam engine is that the boiler (the mechanical heater that coverts water into steam) takes too long to heat-up.
Most of the previous models developed over the years used kerosene or diesel fuel to heat up the boiler and maintain steam.
However with new technology available this can be almost instant by using propane as the boiler fuel.
The boiler converts water into steam and powers the car.
In addition to eliminating our need for oil (gasoline) to power cars, this would also mean we would no longer need a catalytic converter and would not pollute the environment. The pictures below show the evolution and final downfall of the steam powered automobile.
This needs to be brought back immediately.

Paper, something we all take for granted.
Paper comes from Trees.
Trees make oxygen. We have had that discussion but will touch on it several times.
When paper is made, it is a natural brown color (see photo below).

Natural Wood Processed Paper.
Insist on using it instead of white paper.

But to make PAPER White a chemical die process is added to bleach the paper. These chemicals are extremely toxic and very harmful to the environment. This process cost more money and therefore drives the cost of paper up.
If we must use PAPER, lets learn to use it in it's natural color (brown).

Chemically Treated White Paper.
Say no to this. Refuse to use white paper, use all natural brown paper only.

The same harmful chemical process is used to produce Paper with various colors.
Colored Paper, very harmful for the environment.
Say NO to this, use only all natural made brown paper.

What can you do?
1) - Insist that your local public schools, public utilities, and local government offices use all natural brown paper only.
2) - Make recycling mandatory for ALL paper products in your community.
3) - Pressure our local businesses to use ALL natural brown paper and recycle all their paper products.
Remember, Brown PAPER is Good, White and Colored Paper is bad.
Get involved and save the planet one simple way. One step at a time.
This would have little or no cost impact to business or manufacturing.
Another way to use a common product, but use it wisely and correctly.

Drinking Water

This is one of the items unfortunately will cost a lot of money to fix.
Currently we are doing nothing.
The world is running out of drinking water.
Soon wars will be fought over water and food, not oil.
We need to build huge desalination plants up and down both coast of the United States that simply convert salt water (an abundance on earth) to fresh water. The salt residue then becomes table salt.
In addition to these plants we need pipelines that carry fresh water throughout the United States especially to areas that produce food such as crops and livestock.
Plant designs should be a tinker toy replicator design, as in all the plants are exactly the same. This reduces various design, engineering, and construction cost and maintenance and replacements parts are all interchangeable.
Since we needed these 10-years-ago and have done nothing, we better get our head out of our butts and start building about 100 of these now, plus at least 5 major pipelines across the country with multiple spurs to bring the necessary fresh water to critical areas.
Man cannot not survive without drinking water.
We can not grow crops and feed livestock without it.

Here is another method to redirect money that is all ready being spent to help the environment:

Grass many look nice but is not environmentally sound. It requires fertilizers, insecticides, and lots of water to make it stay green and look nice. Other than a play area for children it's useless. Many people move from areas where grass is common and want to install it in a desert climate. Developers and politicians eager to please jump on the grass concept, especially in backyards and golf courses. Add to the fact lawn movers and leaf blowers give off high amounts of CO2 polluting our air and use gasoline is never a consideration.
Golf communities are a waste of good space and if they have to be built then use artificial turf. After all it's good enough for million dollar athletes to play on it's good enough for golfers.
Instead of spending all this money and maintenance on GRASS every developer should be required to plant two indigenous trees per home that serve as both a shade tree, and are high oxygen producers. Some trees are more suitable for this than others. Builders should be required to include a 5-year warranty on each tree and shrub they plant thus insuring the environment is helped. As a general rule most trees require little maintenance as compared to grass.
Remember TREES are what keep you alive on this planet.
Trees convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. They also prevent soil erosion. Many trees live for hundreds even thousands of years.
In addition, public parks and community green areas must be required to plant healthy shade trees.

So lets sum up Trees versus Grass and the Impact on the Environment....

Grass is bad.
Gives off minuscule amounts of oxygen, uses water, and pollutes the environment with chemicals.

Trees in yards are good. They produce oxygen and offer shade.

Trees in parks and recreation areas, and along highways produce oxygen and prevent soil erosion. Trees are good they help the environment and help the planet stay green. Trees reduce the carbon foot print and give us healthy air to breathe.

So what are your local politicians and developers doing to help your air quality?
Call them, tell them to plant more TREES !!!
